Racktime Boxit Large. Stromer Cargo Bike?
The Racktime Boxit Large is a game changer for us on our own Stromer ST2 making it more of a light load cargo bike.
Sadly the Racktime Boxit isn’t officially compatible with the Stromer 70mm narrow width rack. It fits perfectly after adjusting the ‘Snap it’ mount on the box frame though which made it very tempting to try, so we did.
Our assumption with regards to compatibility is that if fully loaded to the 23kg capacity the leverage would be too great for the plastic Racktime mechanism and it may break. We’ve spoken to Stromer and asked if they would look into a wide rack version of the Racktime Stromer carrier to retro fit to all Stromers to allow the use of this kind of Racktime accessory.
We’ve strengthened the interface with 4 very large heavy duty zip ties to relieve the load on the mechanism. The only downside is that we can’t whip the carrier off and on as you should. For us this inconvenience is worth it for the practicality of the large cargo space and we don’t go near the maximum load.
It is an amazing bit of kit but you’ve been warned, it’s not officially supported on the Stromer and should only be used at you own risk. We use heavy duty zip ties to reduce the strain and as a second security system should the mount break to save your cargo shooting off down the road!
